is a monthly "birth control" for fleas. K9 FLEA
CONTROL is
given orally once a month with a meal. The active ingredient
Lufenuron is stored
in your pet�s body fat and
transferred to adult fleas through their bite.
Adult fleas transfer it to their eggs by its presence in the
mother flea's blood, or by the larva feeding on pre-digested blood.
Within 24 hours
the Lufenuron will be in the flea's next blood meal. Once a flea
ingests it, eggs they produce never hatch. Lufenuron is a chitin
inhibitor. With no chitin exoskeleton, the flea in the egg fails
to develop. At the same time, K9 FLEA
CONTROL also
gets into the flea's excrement; known as "flea dirt"...
this is flea larvae's favorite food. Once the larvae eat the flea
dirt they will not be able to develop.
Lufenuron, a benzoylurea pesticide,
inhibits the production of chitin in larval fleas.
Without chitin, a larval flea will never develop an exoskeleton.
Attacking the ability to create chitin may make lufenuron a remedy
against fungal infections,
such as ringworm (adermatophyte infection
and not a worm at all).
It has no known toxic effects
at any dosage on humans or
other animals in the environment that do not depend on chitin,
though the orally administered pills can sometimes cause an upset
stomach with acid
reflux.
Lufenuron
is approved for use in dogs and cats over 6 weeks of age weighing
2 pounds or more. It's a very safe treatment, which can even be
used on pregnant and nursing dogs and cats.
